Tree Work Where Every Yard Is on Display
Tree Service in The Villages is less about clearing big acreage and more about precision. Homes sit close together, lanais and screened pool cages sit under the canopy, and a golf cart path or fairway may run behind the lot. A dropped limb that would be a minor nuisance on a farm can punch through a pool enclosure here. Elite Tree Service Ocala plans each job in The Villages around those tight quarters: smaller cuts, roped limbs, and cleanup that leaves the yard looking the way it did before, minus the problem tree.
Know the rules before the saw comes out
The Villages spans parts of Sumter, Marion and Lake counties, and most of it is governed by community development districts. Neighborhood declarations of restrictions cover landscaping and exterior changes, and a resident architectural review committee oversees property modifications. In practice, that means you should check your neighborhood's deed restrictions and the review process before removing a tree or replacing one with something different. We are happy to give you a written description of the work and the reason for it, which is usually what a review request needs.
Fast growth, young landscapes
The community grew from 8,333 residents in 2000 to 51,442 in 2010 and 79,077 in 2020. Many trees in the newer villages were planted as part of that build-out, so a lot of what we see is young trees that are now big enough to need their first structural pruning. Getting that done early, while cuts are small, prevents the codominant trunks and heavy limbs that split in storms years later. In older sections near the original Orange Blossom Gardens area, the issue is more often aging oaks and palms that have grown well past the scale of the house.
Wind is the real risk here
The February 2, 2007 Groundhog Day tornado formed near Wildwood, crossed the south side of The Villages and continued into Lady Lake, damaging more than a thousand homes in Sumter County alone. Tornadoes like that are rare, but summer thunderstorms and tropical storm bands bring gusts every year. On compact lots, the practical defense is keeping limbs off the roof, thinning dense crowns so wind passes through, and removing trees with decay before they fail.
Common requests from Villages homeowners
- Clearance pruning over roofs, lanais and pool cages
- Palm trimming that leaves a full, healthy head instead of a skinned look
- Removal of oaks or pines that have outgrown a small yard
- Stump grinding so a bed or lawn can be replanted to match the neighborhood
- Storm cleanup of limbs on screens, gutters and cart paths
- Written scopes of work to include with an architectural review request

The Villages Questions
Do I need approval to remove a tree in The Villages?
Check your neighborhood's deed restrictions and the architectural review process first, because landscaping and exterior changes are regulated there. Requirements can differ between neighborhoods. A written scope from us describing the tree and the reason for removal helps with that request.
Can you work around my pool cage without damaging it?
Yes, that is routine here. Limbs over a screen enclosure are cut in small sections and lowered with ropes rather than dropped. We point out anything that is already resting on the frame during the estimate.
I'm only here in winter. Can you handle my trees while I'm away?
Many owners in The Villages are seasonal. We can do the estimate in person when you are here and schedule the work for later, or work from photos and arrange access with a neighbor. You get the written quote either way before anything is done.
How often should palms be trimmed here?
Most palms only need dead and hanging fronds removed, often once a year. Cutting off green fronds to make a palm look neat weakens it over time, so we leave the healthy green crown in place.
