Tree Care for a Retirement Community
Tree Service in On Top of the World is a particular kind of job. Most residents of the community southwest of Ocala are retirees, and their homes sit on manicured lots where owners care how things look and often can no longer handle a ladder or a chainsaw themselves. Elite Tree Service Ocala handles pruning, palm trimming, removals and stump grinding there with the same priority the residents have: do it right, keep the noise and mess contained, and leave the lawn and beds as neat as they were.
Who lives here and why it matters
In the 2020 census, 80.8% of residents in On Top of the World were 65 or older, and the median age was 72.5. Many homeowners have handed over all their yard work. That changes how we run a visit. We explain the work at the door, point out anything you might want done while we are there, keep driveways clear for anyone who needs to come and go, and clean up thoroughly. If someone else, such as an adult child, is making decisions for the property, we are happy to send the written estimate to them as well.
Trees in a planned landscape
The community has about 7,800 homes on 17.5 square miles, and most landscaping was planted rather than left from original woods. Planted landscapes age together. Trees that went in at the same time tend to reach the same size and the same problems at roughly the same time: crowding, roots lifting walks and driveways, and canopies that outgrow small front yards. Palms are a large share of the work, because they need dead fronds and seed stalks removed on a regular basis.
Community rules
Planned communities usually have their own rules on landscaping and tree removal. Before removing a tree, check with your community's association or architectural review process for any approval, replacement or setback requirements. We can provide a written description of the tree's condition and the proposed work for that request.
What a visit usually includes
1. A walk around the home to look at every tree and palm, not just the one you called about. 2. A clear written estimate with each item listed separately. 3. Pruning done to ANSI A300 standards: cuts made at the branch collar, no topping, and no stripping of healthy palm fronds. 4. Debris chipped and hauled, walks and drives blown off, and beds raked. 5. Stumps ground and the area left level if removal was part of the job.

- Thousands of homes on all-land acreage. The CDP covers 17.51 square miles with no water area and had 7,838 housing units and 7,203 households in 2020; it lies 11 miles southwest of Ocala.
- Four possible power companies. Marion County's emergency management page lists four electric utilities for the county: Ocala's city utility, SECO Energy, Duke Energy and Clay Electric, so the bill shows whose crew handles a limb on the line.

On Top of the World Questions
Can my son or daughter approve the estimate if they live out of state?
Yes. We can email the written estimate to whoever makes the decision and confirm the details by phone. Work is scheduled once you or your family say go.
My palm's lower fronds are brown. Should they all come off?
Only the dead and hanging ones. Healthy green fronds feed the palm, and cutting them off for a tidy look can weaken it over time. Brown fronds, flower stalks and seed clusters can be removed safely.
Roots from my tree are lifting the sidewalk. What are my options?
Sometimes a few roots can be cut and the walk repaired, but cutting large roots close to the trunk can destabilize the tree. In tight front yards, removal and replanting with a smaller species is often the longer-lasting fix. We will look at both options with you.
Is it safe to leave a declining tree for another year?
Sometimes. A tree with a few dead limbs but a sound trunk and roots can usually wait if the deadwood over the house is removed. A tree with decay at the base, a crack through the trunk or a growing lean should not wait, especially next to a home where someone may be sitting on the lanai when a storm hits.
Will the work be loud for long?
Most pruning and palm jobs on a single home take a few hours. Chippers and saws are loud while running, so we start at reasonable hours and finish the noisy parts as quickly as the work allows. Larger removals can take a full day, and we tell you that up front.
