Woods First, Houses Second
Tree Service in Rainbow Lakes Estates is mostly about wooded land. The community straddles the line between western Marion County and southeastern Levy County, with US 41 along its eastern edge about six miles north of Dunnellon, and a large share of its platted lots have never been built on. People who own here call Elite Tree Service Ocala to clear space for a home or driveway, take down dead trees near an existing house, or tidy up a lot that has grown in over years of sitting empty.
Planning a home site
If you are getting ready to build, tree work comes before the foundation. The usual sequence is to mark the house footprint, driveway, well and septic areas, then decide which trees in and around those areas stay. Trees closer than 10 to 15 feet to the planned foundation are usually better removed than saved, because construction will damage much of their root system anyway. Healthy, well-shaped trees farther out are worth protecting with a fenced-off zone so machines don't park on their roots.
Living in the woods
For homes that are already built, the concern is the trees around them. Wooded lots shelter each tree from wind on all sides. When the neighbor clears their lot, the trees left on yours at the edge suddenly face open wind and are more prone to break or tip. Dead standing trees, sometimes called snags, are also common in older woods. They are fine at the back of a property but should be removed if they could reach the house, driveway or power line.
A community with its own district
Rainbow Lakes Estates was set up as a Municipal Services District, with community-owned and maintained facilities and paved roads, and Lake Bonable lies within it. The district's role in roads and common areas means trees in those spaces may be handled by the community rather than by individual owners. For trees on your own lot, decisions are yours, but if the tree is on the edge of a road or common area, it is worth checking with the district first.
Our process for wooded parcels
1. Walk the parcel with you, or meet at the road if you live elsewhere. 2. Mark trees to keep and trees to remove, and discuss what should happen to underbrush. 3. Provide a written quote that separates removal, clearing, stump grinding and hauling. 4. Do the work with the least disturbance to the trees you are keeping.

About Rainbow Lakes Estates
- Many lots still unimproved. A large share of the community's platted building lots are unimproved; the 2020 census counted 3,438 residents and 1,614 housing units across 16.37 square miles.
- Two counties, two metro areas. The community lies in western Marion County and southeastern Levy County; the Marion side is in the Ocala metro area and the Levy side in the Gainesville metro area.
- A Municipal Services District. Rainbow Lakes Estates was established as a Municipal Services District with community-owned and maintained facilities and paved roads, and Lake Bonable lies within the community.
- Marion side: county tree rules. On the Marion County side, the county code exempts trees under 10 inches DBH, dead trees, trees posing an immediate threat and single-family parcels from its stand-alone tree removal permit, which otherwise costs $50.

Rainbow Lakes Estates Questions
I own a lot here but live out of state. Can you look at it without me?
Yes. Send us the parcel number or address and what you want done. We walk the lot, take photos and send a written estimate. Nothing is scheduled until you approve it.
How many trees should I remove to build a house?
It depends on the footprint, driveway, well and septic placement. As a rule of thumb, trees within 10 to 15 feet of the foundation rarely survive construction. We help you pick which trees to keep so the result looks planned, not bulldozed.
Is it worth removing dead trees at the back of my lot?
If they cannot reach your house, driveway, a neighbor's structure or a line, they can often be left as wildlife habitat. If they can reach any of those, it is best to remove them before they come down on their own.
Can you leave the wood for firewood?
Yes. Trunks and large limbs can be cut into rounds and stacked where you want them, and the brush chipped or piled. Leaving wood on site usually lowers the price because it cuts hauling time.
