A Town With Many Kinds of Yards

Tree Service in Lady Lake ranges from older in-town homes with big oaks to tight lots in manufactured-home communities and newer subdivisions on the edges of town. Lady Lake, in northern Lake County, is often called the birthplace of The Villages, and parts of that community lie right next door. Elite Tree Service Ocala does pruning, palm trimming, removals and stump grinding throughout the town.

The 2007 tornado

Early on February 2, 2007, an EF3 tornado that began near Wildwood crossed the south side of The Villages and struck Lady Lake, where numerous mobile homes were destroyed. Eight people were killed in the Lady Lake area. The storm's track was about 16 miles long. Tornadoes of that strength break and uproot healthy trees too, so no amount of pruning makes a yard tornado-proof. What owners can control is the everyday risk: dead limbs, decayed trunks and trees leaning toward the house, which fail in ordinary thunderstorms as well.

Manufactured homes and trees

In manufactured-home communities, homes are lighter and closer together, and a single heavy limb can do serious damage. Large trees between homes deserve regular attention: 1. Remove dead limbs over roofs and carports as soon as they appear. 2. Keep a clear gap between branches and the roof so wind doesn't drag limbs across it. 3. Have decayed or hollow trees assessed and removed if they can reach a home. 4. Grind stumps after removal so they don't become trip hazards between homes. In a park, check with management about who is responsible for which trees before scheduling work.

An older population

Lady Lake's 2020 median age was 67.6, and more than half of residents were 65 or older. Many owners would rather not climb a ladder or run a chainsaw, and we see a lot of requests for small jobs: a few palms, one dead limb, a stump. Those are worth calling about. Small problems handled early don't turn into larger ones.

Lake County setting

Unlike most of the communities we serve, Lady Lake is in Lake County and part of the Orlando metro area, though it sits right on the Marion County line. Town and county rules on trees, rights-of-way and yard waste are set locally, so it is worth checking with the Town of Lady Lake before removing a large tree near a street.

Palms in Lady Lake yards

Palms are everywhere in Lady Lake landscaping, from tall Washingtonias to cabbage palms and queen palms. Most need nothing more than the removal of dead fronds and seed stalks once a year or so. Queen palms in particular drop heavy fronds and seed clusters that can damage screens and cars. Over-trimming, sometimes called a hurricane cut, strips away green fronds the palm needs and can leave the trunk narrowing at the top over time. We trim to keep palms tidy without weakening them.

Lady Lake Questions

I live in a manufactured-home park. Can I hire you directly?

Usually yes, but check with park management first about who is responsible for trees on your lot. Some parks handle common trees themselves. If the tree is your responsibility, we can quote it directly.

Can you just remove one dead limb?

Yes. Small jobs are fine. One limb, a few palms or a single stump are all worth a call. We will give you a written price for exactly that.

Do you work in The Villages neighborhoods within Lady Lake?

Yes. For homes inside The Villages, check your deed restrictions and the architectural review process before removing a tree.

Is my tree service near me in Lady Lake able to handle storm damage?

Yes. If a tree or limb is on your home, keep away from that part of the house and from any downed lines, call your insurance company, and then call (352) 320-5752. We remove the weight carefully so the damage doesn't get worse.

How often should a queen palm be trimmed?

Usually once or twice a year, mainly to remove dead fronds and the heavy seed stalks. Leave the green fronds alone; cutting them off weakens the palm.
